ePhilID: How to Get and Download Digital Copy of National ID Card?

ePhilID is a digital and printed copy of the national ID card that individuals can claim and download at a PhilSys Registration Center near them. Know more on how to get and have a printed copy of it.

(UPDATED) If you are tired of waiting for the arrival of your National ID, the Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) has announced that individuals who have already completed the steps for PhilSys Registration will be able to get an ePhilID — the printable version or digital copy of National ID.

The printable version, which was launched in October, was distributed first to beneficiaries of social protection programs. Dennis Mapa, PSA's national statistician and civil registrar general, said that PSA's goal is to release 20 million electronic versions of the national ID by the end of 2022, to meet the target of 30 million cards.

ePhilID will be printed and can be laminated at PhilSys registration centers. It will be an alternative for those who do not have a physical copy of their national ID and has the same functions and validity as the physical ID.

The electronic version has begun to be implemented in the National Capital Region, Bulacan, and Pampanga, and will be implemented throughout the country. Meanwhile, the printing capacity of PSA's printing partner, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, has limited the availability of physical national ID cards.

BSP plans to add machines to speed up the process of printing physical copies of National ID. According to PSA, approximately 70 million Filipinos have registered for the national ID and completed the PhilSys Registration process.

Anyone who is already registered and has a PhilSys Number (PSN) can download their ePhilID, according to PSA. They can obtain their ePhilID by scheduling an online appointment and bringing their transaction slip to their preferred PhilSys Registration Center on the reserved date.

The ePhilID or PhilSys digital ID can be used in transactions under the Republic Act (RA) 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act of 2018.

Who is eligible to get an ePhilID?

According to PSA, anyone who is already registered and has a PhilSys Number (PSN) can download their ePhilID. They can obtain their ePhilID, subject to availability, by scheduling an online appointment and presenting their transaction slip at their preferred PhilSys Registration Center on the reserved date.

Although it is "temporary," it has the same validity as the actual card. As the PSA expedites the printing and delivery of physical cards, registrants will be able to enjoy the benefits of the PhilID.

PSA points out that the digital ID, particularly in its printable format, has a security feature in common with the physical ID. It has a one-of-a-kind digital signature via its QR code, which can be used for authentication.

It can be used in transactions in accordance with Section 7 (c) (1) of the Republic Act (RA) 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act of 2018.

What are the features of ePhilID?

The printed ePhilID, like the physical National ID Card, displays the individual's PhilSys Card Number (PCN) as well as basic demographic information such as full name, gender, blood type, marital status, date and place of birth, front-facing photograph, generation date, address, and a QR Code.

For easier verification, the QR code contains specific demographic information as well as the registrant's front-facing photograph. It also employs public-private key cryptography to ensure that the information contained within the QR code cannot be altered, according to PSA.

By scanning the QR code with the PhilSys Check, the printed ePhilID can be verified. If the ePhilID is genuine, the PhilSys Check will display a successful verification message, the demographic information found in the printed version, and a front-facing photo of the person.

Why does my ePhilID not available for download?

If your national ID card is not yet processed, you will not be able to download a digital copy of it.

If your ePhilID is not yet available for download, it means your registration is still being processed, and your unique PhilSys Number (PSN) has not yet been generated. You must frequently check the portal for the availability of your printed ePhilID and the Post Office's delivery of your physical PhilID card.

Final Thoughts

The ePhilId is an excellent option for those who have yet to receive a physical copy of their National ID Card. It functions similarly to the national ID card, so getting one is advantageous if you still do not have a valid ID.

Individuals with a PhilSys number (PSN) can obtain an ePhilID, whereas those whose National ID card is still being processed cannot obtain a digital or printed copy of it. —iTacloban/Written by AJ Yes
