EASTERN VISAYAS – The Province of Southern Leyte commemorates its 63rd Founding Anniversary with a remarkable Agri-Fish Fair and Garden Show, highlighting the remarkable recovery of its agriculture and fishery sectors. The event showcases the province's resilience after Super Typhoon Odette and receives strong support from government agencies.

Led by Governor Damian Mercado, the Agri-Fish Fair and Garden Show opened earlier today at the Tree Park, Capitol Grounds. The exhibit centered around the theme "Mananagat ug Mag-uuma: Kaabag Ka sa Pagpalambo sa Agrikultura Taliwala sa mga Hagit ug Trahedya (Fishers and Farmers: Partners in Agricultural Development Amid Challenges and Tragedies)" displays the abundant harvests of Southern Leyteños following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Odette in 2021.

Governor Mercado expressed his enthusiasm upon witnessing the diverse range of products at the fair. He emphasized the collective effort and determination of the community to rebuild and overcome past adversities. The governor reassured his unwavering support for the agri-fishery sectors, ensuring continued growth and progress.

The event welcomed Director Hannibal M. Chavez, Regional Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office 8 (BFAR RO8), as the guest of honor. Director Chavez acknowledged Southern Leyte's potential as a regional fishery development center and stressed the importance of sustainable practices and marine resource preservation.

Director Andrew Rodolfo T. Orais, Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8 (DA RFO 8), praised Southern Leyte for successfully implementing agri-fishery programs. He announced DA RFO 8's commitment to allocate around Php 82 million for various agricultural programs benefiting over 47,545 registered farmers in the province.

The Agri-Fish Fair and Garden Show presents a wide range of agri-fishery products from all municipalities in Southern Leyte, along with other development stakeholders. Visitors can explore and purchase fresh farm produce, planting materials, seafood, and processed goods. The fair will continue until July 1, 2023, offering a vibrant display of the province's agricultural heritage.
