Over 2,500 job seekers attend Labor Day job fair in Tacloban, 345 hired on the spot

TACLOBAN CITY – More than 2,500 job seekers attended the Labor Day Job Fair held on May 1, 2023, at the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome). 

The event was organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 8 in coordination with the City Government of Tacloban to celebrate the 121st Labor Day in Eastern Visayas. This year's theme was "Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Manggagawang Pilipino."

The job fair featured over 8,000 local and overseas job opportunities from more than 70 private employers. 

Positions available included financial advisors, loan consultants, teachers, delivery riders, cashiers, service crew, nurses, accounting staff, drivers, production crew, brand specialists, mechanics, audit associates, tax associates, sewers, bakers, salesmen, row assistants, and call center representatives.

345 job seekers were successfully hired on the spot (HOTS) during the one-day event. 

Companies that participated in the HOTS hiring included Virtual Staffing Solutions, LCTC Allied Services, Crispy King Food Station, Limpyada Cleaning Services, Tacloban ANJ Marketing, Polycentrik Lending Corporation, Metro Retail Stores Group, Ace Promotion Marketing Corporation, Home Credit, Robinsons Land Corporation, and AXA Philippines.

Out of the 2,712 registered job seekers, 1,510 were reported as qualified for the jobs they applied for. In addition to the HOTS, 435 applicants were tagged as "Near Hires" and will undergo further interviews and examinations as required by the employers.

The Labor Day Job Fair is part of the larger Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (TNK) Jobs Fair and Kadiwa ng Pangulo para sa Manggagawa initiative, aimed at providing stable employment opportunities and supporting the economic growth of the region. —iTacloban (Source: CIO/DOLE)
