The Department of Public Works and Highways - Biliran District Engineering Office (DPWH-BDEO) conducted an outreach program on August 9 to 11 to two public schools in remote areas of the province in response to the Department of Education's (DepEd's) Oplan Balik Eskwela for SY 2022-2023.

The identified schools are the Palayan Elementary School in Almeria's Sitio Palayan, Brgy. Caucab, and the Libtong Gamay Elementary School in Naval's Brgy. Libtong.

Said activity was initiated as part of the Oplan Balik Eskwela Program by a team from the Maintenance Section led by its chief, Engr. Glenda G. Dagalea.

According to Engr. Dagalea, BDEO has completed school grounds improvement and repainting projects to beautify the mentioned schools.

Meanwhile, DPWH-BDEO distributed food packs and school supplies to 64 Palayan Elementary School students, including crayons, notebooks, ballpens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and plastic folders.

Last year, BDEO also painted pedestrian lanes, did other painting projects, cut the grass, and gave empty pails of cold mix asphalt and unused tires to schools that needed them.

DPWH Biliran District Engineering Office has been an active partner of DepED in the implementation of the Oplan Balik Eskwela Program, an annual event of the DepEd that aims to ensure a smooth and orderly start of classes. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH Biliran/PIA-8)
