EV's connection to trades, industries, and economic zones improved —DPWH

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) VIII has implemented projects that are expected to provide significant economic benefits to Eastern Visayas by creating a safer and more seamless road network connecting its trades, industries, and economic zones.

DPWH 8 Director Allan Borromeo reported that the office has completed three of seven FY 2021 projects under the Roads Leveraging Linkages for Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) program, a collaboration between the DTI and DPWH that aims to connect priority economic and manufacturing zones in Region 8 to potential investors and customers.

The following projects have been completed under the said convergence program: the P45 million Patong-Tuburan-Ilaya-Nava-San Juan Road connecting to SC Global Manufacturer, Sogod Bay Coco Active Carbon, Kennemer Foods International, Macrohon-Maasin-Baybay Highway and Malitbog-Sogod Highway, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte; the P57 million Caraycaray-Cabungaan-Libtong Road supporting the Agribusiness: Food and Resource-based Processing in Brgy. Libtong, Naval, Biliran; and the P70 million Minuhang (Baluarte)-Balud and Balud-Duka Road connecting to Bagahupi-Babatngon-Sta. Cruz-Barugo-Carigara National Road in support of the Barugo Eco-Zone, Barugo, Leyte. 

Ongoing ROLL IT projects include: the P104.4 million Divisoria-Langit-San Antonio Farm-San Diego-Sto. Nio Road, which connects to Tigbao-Sta. Fe-San Miguel Road and Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road in support of the Garment Industry in New Era, Brgy. Langit, Alang-Alang, Leyte (77 percent completed); the P100 million NRJ (0.50 percent completed).

RD Borromeo stated that, in addition to attracting investors, these projects facilitate the distribution of various industries and businesses from urban areas to rural areas and vice versa, resulting in more jobs and income opportunities for locals.

Since the inception of the ROLL IT program, the DPWH 8 has always implemented projects in Eastern Visayas that improve connectivity to various industries and economic zones to contribute to the province's inclusive growth. —Tacloban News Update (Source: DPWH-8)
