(UPDATED 04/07/2022) For long-time Shopee users, you can use the installment feature of Shopee for buyers, which is the SPayLater. It is a "Buy Now, Pay Later" arrangement for qualified users with limited funds by the online marketplace platform. 

Unlike other online marketplaces, Shopee is the first to offer this feature where buyers can choose to buy a product and pay it later or apply for an installment loan with a low processing fee of 0 to 2% of the total amount of their product purchases.

As of September 6, 2021, only selected buyers can use Shopee's SpayLater feature. However, they cannot use SPayLater to buy products from the following categories: vouchers, jewelry, gold, and digital items.

What is SPayLater?

SPayLater (or ShopeePayLater) is the newest feature of Shopee for qualified and long-time users of the online marketplace and e-commerce platform. Qualified users may opt for a "Buy Now, Pay Later" scheme upon purchasing a product in Shopee or avail of an online installment loan.

Currently, said feature is limited in the Philippines and only available to selected users or buyers and those using the platform for a long time.


Who is eligible for SPayLater?

Individuals eligible to use the SPayLater feature of Shopee may check their account if said service is available. To do this, they must open their Shopee app and then go to their profile page by clicking the "ME" button. They must go to the  "My Wallet" section on the profile page and check if SPayLater is already available on their account.

An individual can check their eligibility on the profile page in the "My Wallet" section. If they are qualified buyers or users, the SPayLater button should appear in the "My Wallet" section, as seen in the image above.

What are the requirements to avail SPayLater?

If you are a qualified user, you must provide Shopee a valid government-issued ID and fill out an application form to activate SPayLater. There are only six (6) IDs that Shopee recognizes upon applying for SPayLater, and they are the following:

  • UMID;
  • Driver's License;
  • Passport;
  • Postal ID;
  • PRC ID; and
  • National ID.

How to activate SPayLater via the Shopee app?

To activate the SPayLater feature of Shopee, go to the profile menu and click the "Activate Now" button. Afterward, enter the OTP code sent to your mobile number and then upload a valid government-issued ID. Once you completed the verification process, you will receive a notification that your application is approved.

Step 1 - Go to the profile menu of your Shopee app


On the Shopee app, go to the profile menu by clicking the "ME" button and then click on the "ACTIVATE NOW" button under the SPayLater button. Note: The SPayLater button will only appear to qualified buyers. If it doesn't appear on your Shopee app, it means that your account is not selected to avail of SPayLater and its benefits,

Step 2 - Click "Activate Now" and enter the OTP code


After you click the "ACTIVATE NOW" button, you will receive an OTP code or one-time password sent to your registered mobile number. You must enter it and click on the "NEXT" button to continue with your activation.

Step 3 - Upload your valid government-issued ID


Once you're done entering the OTP code, you will be required to upload or capture a photo of your valid government-issued ID. You may choose from the following: UMID; Driver's License; Passport; Postal ID; PRC ID; and National ID or PhilID.


To upload a copy of your valid ID, select first the type of ID you want to capture. Afterward, click on the button saying "Upload your ID" to start capturing your valid ID. Note: The ID you will upload must be valid (non-expired) and should be clear, so avoid capturing a blurry photo of your ID.

After you upload a photo of your ID, you must provide the following details: ID number, first name, middle name, and last name. Click on the "CONFIRM" button once finished.

Step 4 - Fill out the SPayLater application form


You must fill out the SPayLater application form to continue its activation. Just provide the following information on the required fields: gender, nationality, date of birth, place of birth, employment status, company/business name if applicable, and your emergency contact.

Afterward, tick the boxes indicating that you agree with SPayLater's terms and conditions, fee structure, and privacy policy. Click on the "CONFIRM" button to continue.

Step 5 -Complete the verification and activate your SPayLater


After filling out the application form, you must start the verification process by clicking on the "START FACIAL VERIFICATION." Just follow all the requested face gestures by the app and once you're done, wait for the verification process to be completed.

By this point, you will be requested to choose your due date. Select the date you prefer paying your SPayLater installment loan, either on the 5th or 15th day of the month. Tap on "Confirm" to continue.


Once the activation is done, you can check the total available credit that you can use to pay bills or buy items on Shopee through the SPayLater feature. Make sure to only use it if you really need to.

When should I pay my SPayLater bill or installment loan?

Paying your SPayLater installment loan depends on the due date you have chosen (for newly approved users): either on the 5th or 15th day of the month. It's much better to pay your SPayLater bill three (3) days before the date you have selected to avoid higher interest rates and charges.

According to Shopee, "Interest rates may vary for items from different product categories." Its monthly interest ranges from 1 to 5% for the total amount of an item. SPayLater also has a processing fee of 0 to 2% per transaction amount, so you need to pay your SPayLater bill on time to avoid additional charges.

On the "Payment Method," you must select the mode of payment which can be done through the following: ShopeePay, Payment Center/e-Wallet, Online Payment, or Over-the-Counter.
