Eastern Visayas sets new record of 361 for highest COVID-19 cases in a day

Today, June 09, 2021, the Department of Health- Eastern Visayas recorded the region’s new active COVID-19 cases at 361. It is the highest record in a day in the Eastern Visayas region since the pandemic started.


As of 9 AM today, June 9, 2021, the Department of Health- Eastern Visayas reports the region’s total number of COVID-19 cases at 22,766, total recoveries at 20,712 (90.98%), and total deaths at 331 (1.45%). This brings the total active cases to 1,723 (7.57%). 

A total of 361 new cases were recorded today out of the 1,266 laboratory samples tested in four (4) COVID-19 laboratories.  Of these, 358 were tested in the three COVID-19 laboratories in the region -  the EVRMC, the OMDC, and the DWHVL. While three (3) cases were reported by the Philippine Red Cross in Cebu City. The total number of new cases represents a 28.52% positivity rate. 


The EVRCTC has released a total of 740 laboratory results. Of these, 462 are negative and 278 are positive (with 276 new cases, 1 re-swab, and 1 re-infection) for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the DWHVL has released a total of 365 laboratory results. Of these, 304 are negative and 61 are positive (with 51 new cases and 10 re-swabs) for COVID-19.

Whereas, the OMDC has released a total of 87 laboratory samples.  Of these, 56 are negative and 31 are positive with COVID-19.

Likewise, the Philippine Red Cross of Cebu City has released a total of 74 laboratory samples from Eastern Visayas. Of these, 71 are negative and 3 are positive for COVID-19.

  • EV-20548 -  a 73-year old male from Hinundayan, Southern Leyte who died on May 30, 2021;
  • EV-20916 -   a 72-year old female, from Macrohon, Southern Leyte who died on May 30, 2021;
  • EV-20942 -  a 51-year old male from Maasin City who died on June 2, 2021, and;
  • EV-22316 -  a 61-year old female from Ormoc City who died on June 6, 2021.
