Tacloban LGU extends deadline for business permit, RPT renewal

Tacloban LGU grants more time for business owners and property owners to renew their permits and pay their taxes without penalty.

TACLOBAN CITY – The City Council here has approved a resolution to extend the deadline for the renewal of business permits and the payment of Real Property Tax (RPT) without penalty until January 31 and February 29, 2024, respectively.

The resolution was passed during the regular session on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in response to the low turnout of business owners and property owners who have complied with their obligations.

According to the city's information office, out of the 9,014 business permits that need to be renewed, only 1,995 have been processed as of January 19. The original deadline was January 20, 2024, as stipulated in the amendatory ordinance enacted by the City Council last year.

The extension aims to give more time for the business owners to secure the necessary requirements and avoid the penalties for late renewal, which range from 25% to 50% of the basic tax, depending on the number of days of delay.

Meanwhile, the payment of RPT has also been extended until February 29, 2024, with a 20% discount for those who will pay in full.

Business owners and property owners are urged to take advantage of the extension and the discount and to settle their dues as soon as possible.  —iTacloban (with reports from CIO)
