TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) recently organized a charity event as part of a larger effort by the District Engineers League of the Philippines (DELP). The event sought to foster learning and development in various communities nationwide.

Led by District Engineer Johnny M. Acosta and Assistant District Engineer Rebecca G. Yuse, the event named "Gamit Pang-Eskwela Handog ay Saya" (School Supplies, a Gift of Joy) successfully unfolded with the help of a team including Reynaldo B. De Guzman, Margarita C. Bacierra, Merlita Eclipse, Leah Marasigan, and Arlene Cañete. Their collaboration showcased the engineering office's commitment to promoting educational growth in the local community.

At the event, 77 students from Old Kawayan Elementary School were gifted with new school bags filled with essential learning materials such as notebooks, art resources, pens, and paper. Brimming with joy, the students recognized this gesture as a significant investment in their academic future. In addition to the supplies, snacks were distributed to ensure the children had a nourishing experience.

Mary Ann Figueroa-Guimoc, the head of the school, expressed her heartfelt thanks, noting the financial relief provided to the families and the strengthened bond between the community and the school. She appreciated the inclusion of their remote school in this noble nationwide initiative.

Expressing satisfaction at the successful event, District Engineer Acosta emphasized the vital role education plays in the progress of society. Assistant District Engineer Yuse echoed this sentiment, highlighting the fruitful outcomes of government bodies and educational institutions working harmoniously to support local development.

The event, translated to "School Supplies, a Gift of Joy," went beyond mere provision of educational materials; it embodied hope and encouragement, reiterating education's central role in building a brighter future. (Source: DPWH-TCDEO)
