Samar's goat farmers benefit from P3-M DOLE grants

EASTERN VISAYAS – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 (DOLE-8) successfully provided Php 3,000,000.00 worth of livelihood assistance to the local government unit of Zumarraga, Samar. The turnover ceremony, held at the municipal covered court on September 12, 2023, marked assistance distribution to 100 beneficiaries.

Comprising farmers, fisherfolks, the self-employed, and senior citizens, these beneficiaries were overjoyed to receive 400 goats for their Goat Farming/Raising Project, approved under DOLE's Integrated Livelihood Program. Each beneficiary was equipped with four (4) goats and essential items like a box of multivitamins and nylon ropes. This support allows the beneficiaries to augment their family's income and enhance their overall quality of life.

During the turnover program, the DOLE-8 Regional Director personally presided over the event, graced by OIC-Assistant Regional Director Norman L. Uyvico and Vice-Mayor Annalyn Ojeda, representing Mayor Myrna Tan. In his address, ARD Uyvico emphasized the proper practices of goat farming, stressing the importance of maximizing the government's assistance for a significant economic impact on the beneficiaries' lives.

The recipients expressed their delight and gratitude for the livelihood grant, emphasizing its positive impact on their lives and families. A beneficiary shared heartfelt appreciation for DOLE's program and thanked all those involved for turning their dreams of a livelihood into a reality.

“Nakarawat na namon, kami na mga beneficiary an amon hingyap na livelihood. Amon ini titimangnuon, aatamanon para makabulig ha amon kinabuhi. Salamat DOLE han iyo bulig ha amon,” she expressed. In addition to the regional director, the turnover ceremony witnessed the presence of DOLE-Samar Field Office Head, Engr. Aleksei Ceasar D. Abellar and PESO Manager Nerrisa Bulan, all contributed to the success of this empowering endeavor.
