TACLOBAN CITY – Mega Prime Foods Incorporated (MPFI), the company behind the popular Mega Sardines brand in the Philippines, successfully launched the Mega Malasakit Mission in Tacloban on July 25, 2023. This initiative, a newly launched subsidiary of Mega Global Holdings, aimed to spread the "malasakit" culture throughout the community.

MPFI, known for its dedication to helping Filipinos through high-quality and value-for-money food products, not only produces Mega Sardines but also offers other beloved brands like Mega Tuna, Mega Prime Quality canned fruits and vegetables, cooking aids, Mega Mackarel, and Primo Sparkling Juice.

The Mega Malasakit Mission was conceived based on the company's deeply-rooted core value of "malasakit," which centers around a commitment to uplift the lives of Filipinos. The program was under the umbrella of the Mega Tiu Lim Foundation (MTLF) and aimed to empower families in the community with accessible and affordable sources of nutrition.

The launch event in Tacloban commenced with a community salu-salo held at Astrodome, bringing together around 2,500 individuals from the city's 138 barangays. The half-day event was filled with enjoyable activities, including games, cooking challenges, brand and educational talks, and product giveaways.

One of the highlights of the Mega Malasakit Mission was the cooking challenge. Volunteer employees from MPFI shared their knowledge of healthy recipes using affordable ingredients from Mega.

Selected participants were invited to showcase their culinary skills by creating healthy dishes such as Bola-Bola, Shanghai, Sotanghon, Sinigang, Omelette, and Pandesal Spread. The dishes were judged based on taste, presentation, and ability to feed 2,500 individuals.

The event was graced by Mega Chief Growth and Development Officer Marvin Tiu Lim, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, and Hiraya Tacloban Foundation President Raymund Romualdez, who delivered short messages during the launch.

The Mega Malasakit Mission expanded the scope of Mega's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. Building on the success of its nutrition programs for children through the Mega Tiu Lim Foundation, the initiative aimed to empower families by providing nutrition education and affordable, nutritious meals. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
