EASTERN VISAYAS – Tarangnan, a fourth-class town in Samar province, is set to witness a significant enhancement in its healthcare services as the Department of Health's regional office in Eastern Visayas hands over a state-of-the-art sea ambulance to the local government unit.

This vital addition, worth PHP4 million and funded through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program, aims to address the unique healthcare needs of island communities in the region.

The state-of-the-art sea ambulance has advanced medical equipment and accessories, including a stretcher, automatic external defibrillator, nebulizer, portable suction machines, and an oxygen cylinder. It is designed to provide swift and efficient emergency response during critical health situations.

DOH Eastern Visayas Regional Director Exuperia Sabalberino highlighted the significance of this new sea ambulance in bridging the healthcare gap for remote island communities. The availability of this specialized resource will facilitate timely referrals to the nearest appropriate healthcare facility, ensuring prompt and effective treatment for patients.

Tarangnan Mayor, Danilo Tan, expressed profound gratitude to the Department of Health for selecting their town as the recipient of the sea ambulance. Mayor Tan reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional, accessible, and affordable healthcare services to the town's approximately 25,713 residents.

With Tarangnan currently relying on the Tarangnan Community Hospital as its sole healthcare facility, the addition of the sea ambulance is poised to revolutionize emergency response capabilities, particularly in remote and isolated areas of the town.

This recent initiative follows the successful allocation of sea ambulances to several other towns in Eastern Visayas.  —iTacloban (Source: PNA/DOH-8)
