TACLOBAN CITY – Tacloban City Government joined the Filipino people in celebrating two important events today, June 12: the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and the 70th anniversary of Tacloban becoming a city.
The celebration took place at City Hall and was led by City Administrator Atty. Anacleto Rei "Jojo" A. Lacanilao III, representing Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez. Representatives from different departments and agencies were also present.
The main highlight of the ceremony was a special tribute to the heroes who fought for our country's freedom. Atty. Lacanilao, in his speech, honored the people who played significant roles in shaping Tacloban's history.
He talked about how the city has grown from being a trading center in the region to contributing to the progress of the entire country.
During his speech, Atty. Lacanilao emphasized the importance of maintaining honesty and fairness in serving the public. In his closing statement, he said, "Huwag nating kakalimutan ang mga nasa ibaba at mga maliliit nating kababayan dito sa Tacloban," reminding all public servants of their responsibility to serve and uplift every member of the community.
The celebration honored the struggles and triumphs of the nation's independence and marked the growth and development of Tacloban as a city.
