DICT, PEZA join forces to advance digitalization efforts in Philippine ecozones

DICT collaborates with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to enhance digitalization in ecozones, aiming for faster and more efficient government services.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has partnered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) to accelerate digitalization efforts within ecozones, marking a significant step toward digital transformation. The collaborative effort was formalized on May 18, 2023, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the PEZA Head Office in Pasay City.

The MOU was signed by DICT Secretary Ivan John E. Uy and PEZA Director General Tereso O. Panga. It outlines the DICT's responsibilities, which include evaluating PEZA's existing applications and systems, as well as providing assistance in their development and enhancement.

DICT will also comprehensively examine potential joint programs and projects, ensuring seamless integration between PEZA's identified applications and systems and the DICT's digitalization initiatives, aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s 8-Point Socio-Economic Agenda.

Secretary Uy emphasized the significance of the e-Governance MOU and highlighted its role in promoting a unified operating system for government transactions. Adopting such a system is expected to result in faster, more efficient, and more convenient delivery of public services nationwide.

At the signing ceremony, Secretary Uy stated that the DICT offers its assistance and encourages every agency and public institution to adopt e-governance solutions. These solutions aim to enhance the efficiency of processes and the quality of services. The signing of this MOU for e-Governance will unite the government, achieving not just interconnection but also interoperability of systems and applications. Secretary Uy considered this MOU the first step towards realizing the President's vision.

DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David L. Almirol Jr. also attended the event and expressed optimism about the agreement's potential impact. He asserted that signing the Memorandum of Understanding could bring about a significant change in terms of e-Governance in the country.

Undersecretary Almirol Jr. believed that this agreement would pave the way for a substantial improvement in facilitating ease of business for the people.

Meanwhile, PEZA Director General Panga reiterated the commitment of both agencies to digital transformation, emphasizing its importance in meeting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s call for increased digitalization in government services. He stated that this partnership is the agencies' response to the President's call, aiming to enhance digitalization in government and ensure fast and efficient service delivery to the public.

Director General Panga emphasized the continuous improvement of data security, transparency, and government transactions, creating an environment more conducive for ecozone developers, locators, and investors to do business and expand in the country.
