TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban Youth Volunteers Movement (TYVM) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Eastern Visayas have joined hands to promote a sustainable and greener environment in Tacloban City.

The two organizations recently organized a tree planting activity which was participated by different youth groups in Tacloban City. The TYVM is a youth-serving organization that enables, empowers, and nurtures Taclobanon youth volunteers to secure sustainable, fueled, and purpose-driven volunteerism.

During the tree planting activity, the participating youth groups were joined by representatives from different organizations such as the Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Ambassadors from the Eagle Scouts Organization of the Philippines (ESOP), JJC-Waraynon, Leytean, and EVSU, UP-Runggiyan, nursing students from St. Scholastica's College Tacloban, Inc, Sidlak Batan-on, Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) EVSU.

Together, they planted 100 mangrove seedlings at the Paraiso Mangrove Eco Learning Park, Marine, and Wildlife Sanctuary at Brgy. 83 at San Jose, Tacloban City.

According to the youth volunteers, the tree planting activity is their modest contribution to a greener environment and building a more resilient community. They look forward to more environmental activities in collaboration with DENR and other stakeholders.

Vanessa Encoy, Assistant Chief Volunteer of TYVM, shared that their ultimate goal is to create a local "tree-munity," a group of transformational youth leaders and climate advocates dedicated to educating the youth on the significance of planting trees and promoting it as a lifestyle as well.

"We envision volunTREE as the beginning step in reaching that goal and hope that it helps in securing a greener environment for future generations to come," she added.

The DENR has expressed appreciation for the youth volunteers' initiative and support in promoting environmental protection and sustainability in the region.

They emphasized that the youth's participation in these activities is crucial in raising awareness and inspiring action toward achieving a more sustainable and resilient future.

The tree planting activity is part of the ongoing efforts of TYVM and DENR Eastern Visayas in promoting environmental protection and sustainability in the region. They encourage everyone, especially the youth, to participate in these initiatives and contribute to building a better future for everyone.
