Over P2M immediate aid given to Calbayog fire victims

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas (DSWD-8) has provided emergency support to families affected by a recent fire incident in Calbayog City, Samar. The blaze, last April 18, 2023, ravaged several homes in Barangay Carmen and Obrero, leaving many families homeless.

In response to the disaster, DSWD-8 swiftly mobilized its resources to provide immediate aid to the affected families. 

The agency distributed over Php2 million in financial assistance to 214 households, with each family receiving Php10,000 to help them get back on their feet. The aid package was a significant relief for the struggling families, who were forced to evacuate to the Calbayog City Sports Center after losing their homes to the fire.

The department has also been working closely with the local government of Calbayog City to ensure that the affected families receive additional aid and support. The agency has pledged to continue assisting the fire victims as they work to rebuild their lives and recover from the devastation.

The immediate aid given by the DSWD was a big help to the affected families, especially during these trying times. The families expressed their gratitude to the government agency for the timely assistance. —iTacloban
