TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) reported 51 new cases of COVID-19 from April 24 to April 30, 2023, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 64,840. Out of the 499 laboratory test results, all samples were tested in the four COVID-19 Laboratories in the region, representing a 10.42% positivity rate.

Despite the increase in cases, the region’s total recoveries are at 64,094 (98.85%), and total deaths are at 694 (1.07%). This leaves the total active cases at 52 (0.080%).

Furthermore, no severe and critical cases have been admitted to hospitals due to COVID-19. Out of 49 ICU beds intended for COVID-19 patients, only 5 (10.20%) are occupied, while 18.80% of 1,080 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently being used.

In light of the implementation of less stringent COVID-19 public safety protocols throughout the country, the DOH-8 reminds the public to continue observing the Minimum Public Health Standards when among crowds, in public spaces, or traveling.

These include continued wearing of face masks, isolating oneself when sick, doubling up protection through vaccination, and ensuring proper ventilation when in enclosed spaces.

DOH-8 encourages the public to remain vigilant in following these protocols to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas. —iTacloban
