TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) is nearing completion of a drainage system along Athletic Road in Tacloban City, with the goal of preventing water ponding in the area.

The construction began on February 23, 2023, and is expected to alleviate the problems faced by people, particularly students, during rainy seasons, as the area is surrounded by three schools, namely Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Main Campus, Leyte National High School (LNHS), and Leyte Normal University (LNU).

Project Engineer Engr. Charlie Tampil expressed his optimism that the new drainage system will solve the ponding and other flood-related problems in the area. He said, "We are positive that this drainage will solve the ponding issues and all other flood-related problems here."

Water ponding has been a significant problem along the said road section. With the construction of the new drainage system, the DPWH aims to provide a safer and more convenient route for motorists, commuters, and students who frequent the area. —iTacloban (Source: TCDEO)
