DSWD-8 provides financial assistance to PWDs, crisis-affected individuals in EV

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas (DSWD-8) has continued its efforts to provide assistance to vulnerable and crisis-affected individuals in the region.

On March 22, 2023, DSWD Biliran, in partnership with Congressman Gerry Boy Espina and Board Member Roselyn Espina-Paras, provided financial assistance to 517 Persons with Disabilities (PWD) at Naval Gymnasium, Naval, Biliran. Each PWD received Php3,000.00, amounting to a total of Php1,551,000.00.

The Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the DSWD also provided financial assistance to program beneficiaries in Caibiran, Biliran, on March 15, 2023. The distribution, led by SFO Biliran - Ma. Joyce Flora and SFO staff in partnership with Biliran Vice Gov. Brigido C. Caneja, Caibiran Mayor Rhodessa D. Revita, and MSWDO Ms. Alyssa Veil L. Sinangote, gave 249 individuals Php3,000.00 each, amounting to Php747,000.00.

On March 14, 2023, DSWD FO VIII Leyte SFO Teal Leader Raquel Bateo, in partnership with the local government of Palo, Leyte, represented by Hon. Vice Mayor Jojo Chiquillo and other officials, provided financial assistance to 472 individuals from Palo, Leyte, under the AICS program. Each individual received Php3,000.00, totaling Php1,416,000.00.

The AICS program also assisted 82 families from Barangay Quezon and Barangay Trangue in the Municipality of Catarman, No. Samar, on March 23, 2023. SFO TL Lucille Montilla and SWO Ramil Ruiz led the successful distribution, in partnership with the local government of Catarman and barangay officials of Gebulwangan. Each family received Php3,000.00, amounting to a total of Php267,000.00.

Moreover, DSWD Eastern Visayas provided immediate assistance to four families affected by a fire incident in Barangay Ponong, Carigara, Leyte, on March 24, 2023. In partnership with the local government of Carigara, Leyte, the agency provided 10 family food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, kitchen kits, family kits, and foams to the affected families.

With its continuous implementation of programs and services, DSWD Eastern Visayas assures the public that it will remain steadfast in providing aid to those who need it the most. —iTacloban
