TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health (DOH) plans to build 14 more Super Health Centers in Eastern Visayas to improve public health services and reduce the burden on overcrowded hospitals.

These centers will offer diagnostic services and refer patients to hospitals if needed. This initiative addresses gaps in the country's patient referral system and healthcare access inequalities.

The new centers will be funded with PHP140 million, and each center's construction will cost between PHP6.5 million to PHP10 million, while equipment procurement will cost between PHP1.5 million to PHP2 million.

The six centers will be built in Leyte, three in Northern Samar, two in Samar, and one in Biliran, Eastern Samar, and Southern Leyte provinces.

Jelyn Lopez-Malibago, DOH Eastern Visayas Regional Information Officer, said that the Super Health Centers will offer diagnostic facilities, laboratories, X-ray, ultrasound, and other services. These centers will provide more accessible services to rural areas and help ease the congestion of regional and provincial hospitals.

The department aims to build a nationwide health facility in each town, in line with the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) mandate to support the Philippine Health Agenda "Boosting Universal Health Care."

DOH's initiative to build 14 additional Super Health Centers will contribute to the country's efforts to enhance its universal healthcare program, particularly in rural areas where better public health services and facilities are needed. —iTacloban (Source: PNA)
