TACLOBAN CITY – On Tuesday, January 4, 2023, authorities in this city successfully captured Byron Murillo, a prisoner who had been on the run since his escape from Leyte Provincial Jail in January 2022.

The operating unit of the Tacloban City Police Office-City Intelligence Unit(TCPO-CIU), led by PCOL Michael P Palermo, conducted an aggressive manhunt operation that resulted in Murillo's capture at around 2:20 PM in Barangay 95, Caibaan.

Murillo, a 40-year-old native of Barangay San Diego in Alang-Alang, Leyte, had been detained at Leyte Provincial Jail while serving a final sentence for estafa, a type of fraud.

He was also facing an additional seven counts of estafa when he escaped from custody while at Bulwagan, Tacloban City, for a scheduled hearing.

TCPO-CIU has lauded the efforts of all those involved in the successful operation, which is a testament to their dedication to upholding justice and keeping the community safe.
