DSWD ensures continuation of aid to individuals in crisis

DSWD has announced that it will soon resume providing cash grants to individuals and families experiencing unexpected crises.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that it will soon resume providing cash grants to individuals and families experiencing unexpected crises, such as illness or death.

According to Romel Lopez, a spokesperson for the agency, the DSWD is simply waiting to release its budget before processing claims under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, which may take a week or two.

Meanwhile, Lopez said that guarantee letters issued to beneficiaries may be used until cash grants are released.

Lopez explained that the delay in claims processing typically occurs at the beginning of every new year. Still, the distribution of cash grants usually resumes within the first two weeks of January.

The AICS program provides aid to families or individuals experiencing unexpected crises, and last year the DSWD provided grants to indigent students under the program as well.

In addition to the AICS program, the DSWD has provided over PHP 85 million worth of aid to Filipinos affected by floods caused by heavy rains in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

This aid includes food and non-food items, cash assistance distributed to victims in Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and CARAGA.

The DSWD is committed to ensuring that those in need continue to receive the assistance they require.
