TACLOBAN CITY – Several persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were able to receive much-needed healthcare services at the kick-off launch of the "Bakunahang Bayan 2" mass vaccination activity held at the Tacloban City Jail on December 6, 2022.

DOH Undersecretary Camilo Pancratius was on site to oversee the "Bakunahang Bayan" initiative, which aimed to inoculate 109 PDLs with COVID-19 primary and booster doses.

Acting City Health Officer Dr. Danilo Ecarma and officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Office of Civil Defense were also in attendance.

The mass vaccination event was organized in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Regional Director SC SUPT Delvic L. Oreiro and Tacloban City Police Office Director PCOL. Michael Palermo.

In addition to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, the PDLs also had the opportunity to check their eyes and be given free glasses if needed. This is just one of many initiatives aimed at providing necessary medical services to PDLs, who are often at a higher risk of contracting and spreading diseases due to the close quarters in which they live.

The "Bakunahang Bayan" initiative is part of the DOH's ongoing efforts to protect and promote the health of all Filipinos, including those who are imprisoned. By providing access to essential medical services, the DOH is helping to ensure that PDLs are able to maintain their health and well-being while in custody.
