TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 8 (DOLE-RO8) will participate in this year's nationwide simultaneous tree planting on September 13, 2022, under the theme "Buhayin ang Pangangalaga sa Kalikasan."

Employees from DOLE-RO8's various field offices took part in the tree planting activity, which took place in the following locations: Brgy. Antipolo, Jaro, Leyte; Brgy. Villaconsuelo, Naval, Biliran; Brgy. Cambaro, Macrohon, Southern Leyte; Brgy. Guirang, Basey, Samar; Brgy. Libas, San Julian, Eastern Samar and Brgy. San Jose Mondragon, Northern Samar.

The nationwide tree planting aims to cover 11.6 hectares of land as part of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) tangible solution under the National Greening Program, the country's largest reforestation project.

Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena is pleased that DOLE was able to participate in such an important event.

“We are glad to be able to join this important activity as we are again reminded of the need to protect and preserve the environment not only for us but for the future generations,” said Jalbuena.

Jalbuena also thanked all of the DOLE-RO8 provincial offices for their active participation and tremendous support for the activity.

The concurrent activity was carried out in collaboration with the Departments of Agriculture (DA) and Interior and Local Government (DILG) (DILG).

Native and fruit-bearing tree seeds were planted, including narra, yakal, molave, kamagong, yakal, patsaragon, igot, langka, and coffee. Bakauan propagules from mangrove species were also planted, especially in Eastern Samar, which is frequently hit by typhoons. —iTacloban (Source: DOLE-8)
