TACLOBAN CITY – Seventy-seven (77) youth from Tacloban City graduated last May 25, 2022, from the JobStart Philippines Program of the Department of Labor and Employment, in collaboration with the government of Canada and the Asian Development Bank.

Morris Rillon expressed heartfelt gratitude as one of the city's 2021 JobStart implementation beneficiaries at a graduation ceremony co-hosted by the DOLE Regional Office No. 8 and the Tacloban Public Employment Service Office (PESO) on May 25, 2022, at Robinsons North, Abucay, Tacloban City.

"I'm grateful to DOLE, PESO, and all of the employers who have given me the opportunity to work," Morris said.

Meanwhile, Jan Patrik Abe testified about how the program increased his confidence in achieving his goal and even offered advice to other young people.

"You really need to get out of your comfort zone because success is earned, not found," Jan Patrik said.

JobStart Philippines is a DOLE program that uses a Full-Cycle Employment Framework to shorten the school-to-work transition of job-seeking at-risk youth. Beneficiaries received career counseling, life skills, and technical training, as well as paid internships or work experience with private employers.

At least 36 beneficiaries found work soon after receiving life skills training, and 41 were placed under a Memorandum of Agreement.

Partner employers also spoke at the program's conclusion, thanking the DOLE and the City of Tacloban for giving them the opportunity to assist the youth in their search for work.

Ms. Samantha Chan of the Chan Group of Companies stated that the JobStart program allowed them to do something more meaningful than just making money.

"Thank you, DOLE and PESO, for allowing our company to do something of social significance," Chan said.

DOLE-RO8 Director Henry John S. Jalbuena was present during the program and encouraged the beneficiaries to never give up on their dreams. He congratulated all of the graduates and thanked the partner employers for their assistance.

Atty. Aubrey Justimbaste, Legal Consultant to Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez, Engr. Emmanuel Y. de la Cruz, Head of DOLE North Leyte Field Office, and Mr. Norman L. Uyvico, Head of Technical Support Services Division were also in attendance.

All graduates received certificates of completion as well as tokens. —iTacloban (Source: DOLE-8)
