DPWH Tacloban assists in the conduct of COMELEC’s "Operation Baklas"

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) – together with Commission on Elections (COMELEC) officials, started the removal of unlawful campaign paraphernalia during its operation tagged as “Operation Baklas”.

Operation Baklas covers the dismantling of campaign materials installed outside of the designated common poster areas in public places, and on private properties without owners’ consent, as well as printed materials beyond the allowable maximum size limit Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Elections Act.

As for the city, the COMELEC - Office of the Election Officer, Tacloban City has designated 16 common poster areas for the May 9, 2022, national and local elections.

Along with City Election Officer Atty. Ramon J. Dadulla, Jr. of COMELEC – Office of the Election Officer Tacloban City, the office’s maintenance crew started its operation from San Jose to Cabalawan, Tacloban City to remove and collect campaign materials of national elections candidates, which includes presidential, senatorial, and party-list candidates, that are not within the city’s common poster areas and those that have not complied with the guidelines imposed by the COMELEC.
