Number of constructions in EV increase by 11.1% in the third quarter of 2021

TACLOBAN CITY – The total number of constructions in the region has increased by 11.1 percent, from 1,319 in the third quarter of 2020 to 1,465 in the same quarter of 2021.

The number of non-residential building constructions increased by 40.5 percent, from 232 in the third quarter of 2020 to 326 in the same period of 2021.

Residential building construction increased by 10.1 percent to 1,010 in the third quarter of 2021, up from 917 in 2020. On the other hand, the combined number of building additions/alterations and repairs fell from 170 in the third quarter of 2020 to 129 in the current quarter, a 24.1 percent decrease.

Residential buildings accounted for more than two-thirds of total constructions in the region, accounting for 68.9 percent. In comparison, non-residential buildings and additions/alterations and repairs accounted for 22.3 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively.

The total value of constructions in the region was estimated to be P3.4 billion in the third quarter of 2021. This figure is 87.2 percent higher than the total value of constructions in the same quarter of 2020, which was P1.8 billion.

The total value of non-residential buildings increased by 158.0 percent, from P0.7 billion in the third quarter of 2020 to P1.8 billion in the current quarter. 

Meanwhile, the total value of additions/alterations and repairs to existing structures increased 79.9 percent. Its value increased from P105.6 million in the third quarter of 2020 to P189.9 million in 2021. Total residential building value increased by 39.9 percent, from P1 billion in the third quarter of 2020 to P1.4 billion in 2021.

The construction value of non-residential buildings accounted for more than half, or 52.4 percent, of the total value of constructions in the region. The value of residential building construction contributed 42.0 percent. Meanwhile, during the third quarter of 2021, additions/alterations and repairs accounted for only 5.5 percent of the region's total value of constructions.

The average construction cost per square meter for residential buildings was estimated to be P10,462 and P9,128 for non-residential buildings. The preliminary results of construction statistics from approved building permits were used to generate the data.
