New road opens leading to DZR Airport’s new Passenger Terminal Building

TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) – implements project under the convergence and special support program Kalsada Tungo sa Paliparan, Riles at Daungan Program (KATUPARAN).

As the region’s primary airport terminal, Tacloban DZR Airport is the main gateway to Eastern Visayas Region and is considered among the busiest airports in the Philippines having over more than a million passengers a year. Receiving a heavy influx of airport passengers, the road leading to the main terminal is most likely to cause airport-bound traffic.

Hence, the new airport access road will create an additional roadway connecting to the new passenger airport terminal building to help relieve traffic congestion along San Jose road which is the main access road. The said road is also expected to improve road capacity accommodating more public and private vehicles on their way to the airport.

The construction cost of the said project is approximately Php 27-million and is fully funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2021. The project involves concreting a 2.352-kilometer road with a width span of 3.35 meters already at 80% work accomplished.

The project is expected to cover a total of 178 calendar days of construction work if given favorable weather conditions.

“The completion of this project would entail better transportation access coinciding with the future improvement of DZR airport terminal building,” ADE Yuse said. (DPWH-TCDEO/PRESS RELEASE)
