Four individuals commit suicide in Eastern Visayas; 2 due to COVID-19, others due to personal problems

Four individuals have committed suicide in Eastern Visayas. Two are infected with coronavirus disease, while the other two are having personal problems.

TACLOBAN CITY — In just two days (June 9 & 10), four individuals committed suicide allegedly over COVID-19 and other reasons in Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Alang-Alang, Leyte and Lawaan, Eastern Samar.

On Thursday morning, June 10, 2021, a teacher was found dead inside her house in Brgy. 109-A V&G Subdivision, Tacloban City. Police said that she's infected with the COVID-19 disease. She was immediately rushed into a hospital but was declared "dead-on-arrival." 

It was also learned that the victim was being discriminated because of contracting the said disease.


On Wednesday, June 9, 2021,  in Lawaan, Eastern Samar, a 33-year-old male was found hanging inside a quarantine facility. His family believed that he committed suicide after learning that he's COVID-19 positive. Police said that there was no foul play when the incident happened.

In Alang-Alang, Leyte, a 47-year-old male, committed suicide over family problems. He was found lifeless in a rice field in Barangay Cogon of the said town on Thursday, June 10, 2021.


Meanwhile, in Ormoc City, a 19-year old was reported to have killed himself after having a disagreement with her girlfriend. His sibling said he heard a gunshot from the victim's room and found his dead body inside on Wednesday evening, June 9, 2021.
