Mate noticed someone inside the space he rented and inspected it where he saw the two suspects hiding. After he confronted the two minors,  a scrimmage happened where he was stabbed in different parts of his body.

He was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

"Here in Police Station 2 of Tacloban City Police Office, our apprehensions were mostly minors for the crime of theft, robbery, alarm, and scandal, possession of a deadly weapon, and now robbery with homicide! I think there is a need to revisit the lowering of criminal liability," PMaj. Winrich Lim posted in his Facebook account.
