TACLOBAN CITY - A father died after drinking an insect killer while his son failed to prevent him from committing suicide in their house in Hinundayan, Southern Leyte on Sunday, March 14.

The victim was identified as Aristeo Blanco Isog, 43 years old while his son was identified as Vincent Lubang Isog, 21 years old, and both residents of the same area.

According to PSSgt Walter Rosaldo of the Hinundayan Police Station on their initial investigation, Vince rushed to his father, Aris, who was about to drink Malathion, a pesticide that is used to kill bugs, mosquitoes, and other insects.

As both struggled to get hold of the bottle, the older man got another chance to ingest the poisonous pesticide after his son got splashed with it on his mouth and face.

Both were rushed to a nearby hospital in Hinundyan by concerned citizens where the father was declared dead on arrival while his son was given medical treatment and currently in a stable condition. — Tacloban News Update (with reports from Bombo Radyo and Manila Bulletin)
