Public school teacher in Tacloban, nabbed for 'selling' illegal drugs

TACLOBAN — The Tacloban City PNP Drug Enforcement & Intelligence Unit successfully conducted a drug buy-bust operation in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) that led to the arrest of 1 high-value individual (HVI) and 1 high school teacher who is also an HVI, on February 16.

The operation was led by PLt Amora and PMaj Cañamaque.

The suspects were identified as alias Poloy, 41, male, listed as an HVI, and alias May, 40, female, a high school teacher. Both are residents of Barangay 91, Abucay, Tacloban City.


According to the police report, 7 sachets of shabu were confiscated from the suspects with an estimated market value of 36,000 pesos. Other items that were confiscated are a 500 peso bill used as buy-bust money and a digital weighing scale.

PCPT LIM, Station Commander - TCPO Police Station 2 conducted the on-site inspection.

Cases for violation of Sections 5 & 11 of RA 9165 otherwise known as the "Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002" are being prepared against the suspects and both are temporarily detained at the TCPO Police Station 2 Custodial Facility. 


"TCPO shall continue the relentless campaign against illegal drugs and other illegal activities while maintaining public safety amidst threats of COVID-19 in Tacloban City", PCol Darwin S. Miranda, TCPO City Director, said in an interview.

On January 31, another high school teacher named Romeo Quinto Mista, 51, who is an HVI, was also arrested on a drug buy-bust operation conducted by PDEA at Siren Dist., Calvary Hill, Tacloban. 

The operation was conducted at Mista's own house where he was captured along with his two nephews, Daniel Mista Ratubal and Alfonso Mista Asebo, for using illegal drugs.  

Sachets of shabu worth P2,000 were confiscated from the suspects, and a large sachet of shabu worth P40,000 was found in Romeo's coin purse. He admitted that he only used drugs but does not sell them. Tacloban News Update (Source: Tacloban PNP)
