TACLOBAN CITY — Three more municipalities in Leyte province are now listed in the areas with confirmed African swine fever (ASF) cases, according to a report by the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Friday.

In a virtual press conference, DA Regional Director Angel Enriquez said that the municipalities of Tanauan, Palo, and MacArthur are the latest to be infected with the disease.

Areas affected are (1) Barangays Bislig in Tanauan; (2) Kauswagan and Liwayway in MacArthur, and (3) Baras in Palo.

Leyte is the first province in the Visayas that has an ASF disease. The first case was recorded two weeks ago in the municipality of Abuyog. Meanwhile, last week, another confirmed case was recorded in Barangay Comnis in Dulay.

Javier and La Paz were also confirmed to have the swine disease.

Enriquez added that nearly 2,000 hogs have already been culled since ASF was confirmed in the province.

The Department of Agriculture requested local government units in the region to take preventive measures to stop the spread of the disease. iTacloban
