Tacloban City, Philippines - Five hundred (500) people from different barangays in the city received P3,500 cash assistance as an aid for them due to the pandemic.

According to Jaime D. Candelaria, OIC Administrator, Red Cross Leyte Chapter, the distribution of the Multipurpose Cash Grant is in conjunction with 100 barangays in the city where follow-ups are made to determine the people that need the said cash grant.

"More vulnerable families like PWDs, pregnant women, senior citizens, or even without income because they have no job or livelihood," Candelaria said.

The Red Cross itself sets the criteria for who will be provided cash assistance, Candelaria clarified.

One of the beneficiaries, according to Candelaria, are those who have been provided by the Red Cross as Volunteers in their respective barangays who are willing to help their community during emergencies, disasters or anything else that needs help. such as the need for blood.

Volunteers can also become blood donors of the Red Cross- and they can also immediately receive blood from the Red Cross in times of need.

In compliance with the city's implementation of COVID -19 health protocols, at the entrance of the Tacloban City Convention Center (TCCC),  beneficiaries are subjected to a process of health protocols such as thermal scanning, QR code scanning, sanitizing, social distancing, etc.

This was done on November 18, according to Red Cross Administrator Candelaria. After Tacloban City, they can go to other towns and municipalities. iTacloban
