TACLOBAN CITY – A new armory and shooting range was inaugurated inside Camp Sec Ruperto K. Kangleon in Palo, Leyte, on December 7, 2023.

The facility was funded by the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2023 and implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 and Leyte 1st District Engineering Office (DEO).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by DPWH 8 Regional Director Nerie D. Tabacon and Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 Regional Director PBGEN Reynaldo H. Pawid, along with other officials from both agencies.

The event featured the blessing of the buildings, the ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of the building marker, and the turn-over of the symbolic key from DPWH 8 to PRO 8.

In their speeches, both RD Tabacon and RD Pawid highlighted the importance of the new facility, which will help the PRO 8 personnel improve their marksmanship and tactical proficiency in a controlled environment.

They also acknowledged the DPWH-PNP convergence program, also known as Tatag ng Imprastraktura para sa Kapayapaan at Siguridad (TIKAS), for its continued support in advancing the structural needs of PRO 8.

The new facility, which cost Php 6.8 million, consists of an office building, an armory vault, and a shooting range. It was completed in September this year and is designed for the specific purpose of training police personnel with the use of handguns. —iTacloban
