MARINA's ship-inspired regional headquarters in Palo, Leyte inaugurated

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VIII and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Regional Office VIII celebrated the inauguration of a state-of-the-art facility on July 28, 2023. The occasion promises to elevate maritime services in the region.

The impressive 4-storey building with a roof deck, located within the Government Center in Candahug, Palo, Leyte, resulted from collaboration and dedication from both agencies.

DPWH Regional Director Edgar B. Tabacon, Assistant Regional Director Ma. Margarita C. Junia, and Chief of Maintenance Division Engr. Lucas N. Bacsal graced the event, symbolizing the official handover of the building's responsibility to MARINA. 

This magnificent infrastructure, boasting a total floor area of 1737.65 square meters, was locally funded under the FY 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) with a budget of Php 55.049 million.

The building's design, inspired by a ship, reflects the significance of the maritime industry in the region. Its construction demonstrates the commitment of both DPWH and MARINA to provide a conducive and modern workspace for the dedicated personnel who tirelessly serve the maritime sector.

MARINA Region 8 Directress Atty. Eusebia A. Cadlum-Boco expressed her gratitude to all the agencies involved in making this long-awaited project a reality. She conveyed her excitement about having a new home for MARINA, highlighting how it would facilitate better coordination and efficiency in providing services to the maritime community.

During the event, MARINA Administrator Atty. Hernani N. Fabia delivered an inspirational message. He emphasized the importance of the new office building in boosting the morale and productivity of MARINA personnel. 

He expressed his hope that the upgraded infrastructure would catalyze the agency's growth, enabling them to fulfill their duties with renewed vigor and dedication. —iTacloban (Source: DPWH-8)
