National Sepak Takraw Tournament kicks off in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY – The stage is set for an exhilarating display of athleticism and skill as the National Sepak Takraw Tournament officially began today in Tacloban City. Running from June 15 to 18, the tournament is held at Robinson's North (Abucay) as part of the ongoing Sangyaw fiesta celebrations.

According to one of the organizers, San Juanico De Tacloban, the tournament has attracted a total of 18 formidable teams vying for glory in this unique and dynamic sport. Representing different regions across the country, these teams are ready to showcase their agility, precision, and teamwork on the Sepak Takraw court.

From Luzon, the participating teams include the Municipality of Kapangan from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), United Benguet, Benguet, Philippine Army Team A, Philippine Army Team B, and Predators Palawan from Puerto Princesa.

Visayas is well represented with teams such as Balangiga from Eastern Samar, Calbayog City from Samar, and the Tacloban City Sepak Takraw Club Inc. (1 & 2), San Juanico De Tacloban SCI and
TGIF- The Janry Inot Films Tacloban.

Mindanao teams include GEMS-Sampaloc, Philippine Navy Team A, Philippine Navy Team B, Philippine Seals United, and GEMS-Eulogio.

The stakes are high as the teams battle it out for the coveted championship title. In addition to honor and recognition, the top-performing teams will be rewarded with generous cash prizes. The prize distribution is as follows: the first-place team will receive P30,000, the second-place team will be awarded P15,000, the third-place team will earn P10,000, and the fourth-place team will take home P5,000. —iTacloban (with reports from CIO)
