Over P3.3M livelihood and TUPAD grants empower 200 workers in Samar

EASTERN VISAYAS – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 8, led by Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, awarded funding checks totaling over 3.3 million pesos to the local government unit (LGU) of Zumarraga. 

The grants will benefit 100 individuals through a livelihood program for goat farming and provide temporary employment assistance to 100 displaced or disadvantaged workers through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

The LGU of Zumarraga expressed gratitude to DOLE for the continuous support and pledged to utilize the funds efficiently and transparently. The livelihood program, which receives 3 million pesos, aims to enhance the goat farming industry, stimulate growth, boost productivity, and provide sustainable income sources for local farmers.

Additionally, the TUPAD program, funded with 375,000 pesos, will offer temporary employment opportunities to 100 displaced or disadvantaged workers in Zumarraga, enabling them to support themselves and their families during challenging times.

Director Jalbuena reiterated DOLE's commitment to supporting Zumarraga's growth and welfare. He appreciated the LGU's active and continuing support in delivering various DOLE programs and services, particularly in livelihood and employment.

The grants, totaling over 3.3 million pesos, will positively impact 200 workers in Samar, providing them with opportunities for sustainable livelihood and temporary employment.

The awarding ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including OIC-ARD Norman L. Uyvico, DOLE Samar Provincial Head Engr. Aleksei Ceasar D. Abellar, Municipal Vice-Mayor Analyn M. Ojeda (representing Mayor Myrna O. Tan), and PESO Manager Nerissa Bulan. The event emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the programs' goals and supporting the local community's economic well-being.
