Multiple fiber cuts impact Globe services in Eastern Visayas

Globe services were disrupted in Eastern Visayas due to multiple fiber cuts caused by government-contracted construction activities.

TACLOBAN CITY – Customers in Eastern Visayas experienced service disruptions on Wednesday, May 24, due to multiple fiber cuts in Globe Telecom's network lines. Globe Prepaid, Globe Postpaid, Globe Platinum, TM, Globe Business, Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi, Globe At Home Postpaid, and LTE@Home were among the services affected.

Government-contracted construction activities were pinpointed as the cause of these interruptions, impacting millions of customers who had difficulties with calls, texts, and internet browsing. The fiber cuts were located in Tagkawayan, Quezon, due to activities carried out by Joey Ding Contractor, and in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, due to construction work by Cebu 7H Technochem Industries.

Globe's technical and network teams rallied to restore the services promptly, managing to reinstate all affected services by the early afternoon of the same day. Globe is collaborating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which oversees the construction activities at the affected sites, to investigate the root cause of the fiber cuts.

In light of the incident, Globe has appealed to contractors to be more cautious during excavation activities and roadworks, considering the utility lines that may be impacted. Unintentional cuts cause service interruptions affecting customers and leading to expensive repair costs.
