TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City District Engineering Office (TCDEO) obtained permission from residents on Saturday, February 4, 2023, to rehabilitate a road in El Nido, Naga-Naga Barangay 71.

A meeting was conducted at the barangay hall, presided over by Engr. Reyboy D. Lantajo from the Construction Section and Engr. Jesselle V. Macasil from the Planning and Design Section, with the barangay chairman, kagawad, and all concerned residents also in attendance.

The road to be rehabilitated is in a flood-prone area with a low elevation, making it a catch basin for large volumes of runoff water from the Daang Maharlika road, which runs parallel to it on the mountain. The Tacloban DEO is elevating the road and constructing a drainage system to effectively manage the flow of runoff water.

With a total contract amount of Php 7,839,427.76, the 0.48-kilometer road rehabilitation project will also include 432 lane meters of drainage and 216 lane meters on each side of the road. This project is in line with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) responsibility to provide Flood Control and Drainage, which has been devolved to the Local Government Units (LGUs) under the Local Government Code.

According to Engr. Lantajo, the project was well-received by most of the residents, who gave their consent. The engineers hope this rehabilitation project will significantly reduce the impact of flooding in the area.
