Eastern Visayas celebrates 'Safer Internet Day 2023'

TACLOBAN CITY – In a major push to keep children and young people safe online, the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) in Eastern Visayas celebrated Safer Internet Day 2023 with a comprehensive campaign aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of the internet and promoting online safety. 

The event, held at the SOS Children's Village in Tacloban, brought together children aged 8-17, their respective SOS mothers, and several partner agencies and organizations.

This year's Safer Internet Day celebration was led by the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, Child Pornography, and VAWC (RIACAT CP VAWC). It was attended by officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), World Hope Intl., Plan International, and other organizations.

The event allowed participants to learn about the importance of online safety and the dangers of social media.

During the event, guest speakers, including Ms. Katrina Dominique Acerden, the DSWD Child Focal; Ms. Meg Cabanacan of World Hope Intl.; and Ms. Rochelle Basallote of Plan International, discussed key topics related to online safety, including child's rights and responsibilities, the OSAEC red flags for online safety, and the dangers and responsible use of social media.

The RSCWC and its partners are committed to making the internet safer for children and young people. This year's Safer Internet Day celebration is just the first step in a larger online safety campaign for the region. –iTacloban (Source: RSCWC)
