Tacloban City implements late-night garbage collection in downtown area

Tacloban City implements late-night garbage collection in the downtown area to minimize traffic disruption and promote proper waste segregation.

TACLOBAN CITY – Tacloban City’s downtown area now has a new garbage collection schedule. The solid waste management team at Tacloban City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has decided to collect the garbage from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Any garbage left on the streets after 11:00 PM will not be collected.

The collection will occur in areas starting from the barangay at Boy Scout Junction (also known as Coca-Cola Junction), continuing through the downtown area, and ending at Young Field.

Proper waste segregation should also be observed, separating biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable materials. Biodegradable waste will be collected on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; non-biodegradable waste will be collected on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; and recyclable waste will be collected on Sundays.

According to Mr. Paterno “Jun” Mationg, Jr., one of the ENRO in-charges, implementing the nighttime garbage collection is to avoid disrupting traffic during the day. Mationg also mentioned that garbage collectors find it easier to collect at night as there is less traffic than during the day, which results in the smoother collection.

On the other hand, Mationg reported that Area 3 has been designated as the pilot area for waste segregation by the City ENRO.

In this area, biodegradable waste is being converted into fertilizer and returned to those who need it for their gardens. The areas covered by Area 3 are Brgy.79 Ugsad, Marasbaras, Brgy. 81, Marasbaras, Brgy.82, Marasbaras, Brgy.83, Paraiso, San Jose, Brgy. 83-A Burayan, San Jose, 83-B Cogon, San Jose, Brgy. 83-C Taguictic, San Jose, Brgy. 85 San Jose, Brgy. 86, San Jose, Brgy. 87, San Jose, Brgy. 88, San Jose, Brgy. 89, Baybay San Jose, and Brgy. 90, Baybay San Jose. —iTacloban (Source: CIO)
