TACLOBAN CITY – Marivic Cortes Durano, a recent graduate of the Eastern Visayas State University in Ormoc City, has achieved her dream of becoming a licensed professional teacher, thanks partly to the hard work and sacrifices of her husband, a tricycle driver.
Durano thanked her husband, Ermie Durano, for his love and support throughout her journey to become a teacher in a touching Facebook post.
According to Durano, when she entered into marriage, she never imagined she would pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. "All was in my mind was 'minyu naku, mag-uban nata, maghimu natag pamilya'," she wrote.
But thanks to her husband's encouragement and support, Durano returned to school in 2015 and eventually graduated as an academic achiever awardee in 2020.

Durano's husband was an important part of her journey, working extra hours as a tricycle driver to support her education and their family. "Your effort as a tricycle driver was doubled," Durano wrote. "Pang konsumo nato, pang allowance og pang tuition." In 2017, Durano was able to become an LGU Ormoc scholar, which meant she no longer had to pay tuition and received a monthly allowance.

However, Durano's journey was not without difficulties. Durano considered dropping out of school in 2019 after both of their children were admitted to the hospital. Her husband, on the other hand, encouraged her to continue her studies, telling her, "ayaw lage og undang, malagpasan rani nato." Durano persisted and, with God's assistance, was able to maintain her grades and graduate on time.
Durano's story is a testament to the power of determination and support from loved ones. "I graduated in 2020 as ACADEMIC ACHIEVER AWARDEE (dili pwd mag Latin honor kay lage Octoberian) but still grateful sa Ginoo," she wrote. "Dream was delayed because of the pandemic, but it doesn't mean it is denied... All glory and honor is unto God."
Durano expressed her pride and love for her husband, writing, "I am a proud wife of yours, and many are also Happy for your achievements... Ikaw na gyud... I Love you to the Pluto and back."
