DOH-8 launches "Iwas Paputok" campaign in Eastern Visayas

DOH launched a campaign called "Iwas Paputok" in an effort to reduce the number of accidents and injuries that occur during the holiday season.

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Health in Region 8 (DOH-8) has launched the "Iwas Paputok" campaign in an effort to prevent accidents and injuries related to firecrackers during the holiday season.

According to Jelyn Lopez Malibago, spokesperson for DOH-8, a press conference was held last week with other agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to raise awareness about the issue.

Malibago added that there have been five recorded fireworks-related injuries in the last year.

She emphasized the importance of individual compliance with the campaign's guidelines and protocols, such as purchasing fireworks from authorized dealers and retailers and prohibiting the use of certain types of fireworks.

DOH-8 will also visit and monitor hospitals to ensure that they are prepared in the event of any fireworks-related incidents. The campaign will continue throughout the holiday season as a way to promote safe celebrations.

During the holiday season, it's critical to remember to follow safety guidelines and protocols, not only to avoid accidents and injuries but also to protect ourselves and our communities from the spread of COVID-19.

The DOH-8 encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and to prioritize their own and others' well-being. (Source: Bombo Radyo)
