President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. pledged on Sunday, November 13, to strengthen the collaboration between the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), with the goal of providing timely assistance to those Filipinos who are in need.

President Marcos stated that the government provided much-needed assistance during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, which was accomplished through collaboration between DFA,  Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA),

OFWs who were waiting to be repatriated in Cambodia received welfare assistance in addition to the assistance that was provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs' Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Fund during the OWWA's Welfare Officer's visit to Cambodia last year.

According to the President, the government was responsible for providing medical repatriation services as well as assistance through the Legal Assistance Fund, which made available Khmer-speaking lawyers to assist Filipinos who were dealing with legal issues in Cambodia.

Over 10 million Filipinos live and work in various parts of the world, including Cambodia.

The Philippine consulate in Cambodia said that there are over 5,000 Filipinos living and working in the country, with the majority of them working as English teachers and supervisors in clothing and apparel factories and casinos.
