Eastern Visayas hosts Visayas AFC Congress

Over a hundred Agricultural and Fishery Councils (AFCs) from the Visayas regions (Region 6 - Western Visayas, Region 7 - Central Visayas, and Region 8 - Eastern Visayas) attended this year's Visayas AFC Congress, and Area wide Participatory Review and Planning Workshop held at the Haiyan Hotel and Resort in Tanauan, Leyte. 

This will last from Tuesday, October 11, 2022, until Friday, October 14, 2022.

Angel C. Enriquez, Regional Executive Director (RED) of the Department of Agriculture 08 (DA-RFU-08), challenged the AFCs to stay relevant and craft appropriate and timely resolutions that could help boost the country's productivity.

At the same time, she thanked the volunteer leaders for their service to the farmers, fisherfolks, rural youths, and housewives in this marginalized sector, even during the pandemic years.

Governor of Leyte Carlos Jericho L. Petilla stated that he was present to listen and learn while emphasizing the importance of technology as an essential component to consider in any endeavor. He also challenged them to assist our farmers in their respective areas in increasing production and to address the same goals of making the country's agriculture competitive in light of the World Trade Organization and the need to sustain our production to feed our people.

Following the lively Opening Program, Ms. Kristine Angeli A. Valdez of the BPI, Manila, discussed the new DA program on The DA National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) in an Open Forum.

Engr. Miguel Pedroso, Chairman of RAFC 8, also presented the activity's Rationale and Objectives. There was also a video showing the various accomplishments of each AFC since the pandemic.
