Minimum fare for MCHs in Tacloban could increase to P12

The Tacloban City Government's Transportation Committee agreed to raise the MCH fare, which could increase to P12.

TACLOBAN CITY — Months after motor cab for hire (MCH) drivers and operators insisted on a fare increase, the Tacloban City Government's Committee on Transportation reached an agreement to raise the fare, which could increase to P12, after a series of consultations.

The initial agreement during the public hearing held on August 30 at the USAid Building, led by the Committee on Transportation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod through its chairman, Councilor Leo Bahin, was a twelve peso (P12.00) fare in Motorcab for Hire or MCH within the city of Tacloban for the first two kilometers, and an additional two pesos (P2.00) per kilometer.

Bahin said on the "Oras Han Tacloban" program that the consultation was a success, with representatives from the sectors of Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities, Employees, Students, and ordinary commuters participating.

The official also informed the public that once the ordinance is implemented after the proper procedures have been followed, it will be strictly enforced by MCH drivers. He added that for all tricycles used for public transportation, a fare matrix will be placed where the numbers of TOMECO and BPLD are displayed and can be called or texted if necessary.

Local legislators also ensure that this ordinance will ensure that senior citizens, people with disabilities (PWD), and students can take advantage of their 20% discount.

In his closing remarks, the councilor stated that he would ensure that all MCH drivers are fully informed of the ordinance's details. As a result, he is scheduled to meet with all of TODA's presidents here in Tacloban. —iTacloban (with reports from TCIO)
