TACLOBAN CITY – Tacloban LGU celebrated International Youth Day on Monday, August 15, with a YHES Eco-runway competition at Leyte National High School, with the theme "Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages."

The activity, spearheaded by the City Population Office through Adolescent Health and Development (AHD), featured the young candidates wearing runway-ready gowns made of recycled materials.

Cielito Esquibel, City Population Head, said that various youth organizations, offices, and departments that provide services and programs for the youth were also involved in this initiative.

Since 2014, they have annually celebrated International Youth Day on August 12. During that week, they not only celebrate it for a day, but it is a long week celebration — called "Linggo ng Kabataan," of which several activities are planned in collaboration with youth organizations, she added.

Esquibel also mentioned that the ISDN for AHD (Information and Service Delivery Network for Adolescent Health and Development) was the highlight of this year's celebration, which is made up of various offices, departments, youth organizations, and civil society organizations that provide programs and services to the youth sector.

Attendees included out-of-school youth, those still in school, and former youth members, now professionals. The students were representatives from various youth organizations such as CSWDO's TYAP, the City Agriculturist Office's 4H Club, I Love Tacloban Youth, Youth for Human and Ecological Security (YHES), and the Tacloban Peer Educators Association (TPEA). —iTacloban (Source: TCIO)
