The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 8 through its Samar Field Office provided 4.8 million pesos in livelihood assistance to 84 parents and guardians of child laborers in Catbalogan City on August 2, 2022.

Beneficiaries happily received various tools, equipment, and materials for their respective projects such as food vending, fishing, small transport, and motor parts shop during a simple turnover ceremony held in Brgy. Payao, Catbalogan City.

The event was attended by City Mayor Dexter Uy, Labor and Employment Officer Ma. Chulla Corpuz, DOLE-SFO Head Engr. Aleksei Ceasar Abellar, and PESO Manager Maila De Guia.

DOLE's livelihood assistance program aims to provide parents/guardians of child laborers with access to decent livelihood opportunities to supplement their families' income in order to sustain the children's basic needs and education while keeping them out of dangerous workplaces.

Mayor Uy expressed his heartfelt gratitude to DOLE, led by Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, and the DOLE-SFO team for all of their help and support to the City of Catbalogan both then and now. He also reminded all of the recipients to do their best to ensure the success of their businesses.

The aid was provided as part of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) or KABUHAYAN Program, a flagship DOLE program that provides significant assistance for capacity building in livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures for vulnerable and marginalized workers. —iTacloban (Source: DOLE Region 8)
