The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 8's Southern Leyte Field Office (SLFO) recently partnered with SDG Promise Japan, an international non-governmental organization, and the local government unit of Limasawa, Southern Leyte, to build houses for typhoon Odette victims.

Yuki Sano Akasaka and Hinako Ohno of SDG Promise Japan discussed the organization's sponsorship for the construction of houses for 38 indigent households in Limasawa, with a completion date of August 15, 2022.

Eden Ligaya Y. Golong, DOLE-SLFO Head, stated that the DOLE's counterpart will be the implementation of the TUPAD Program in collaboration with LGU-Limasawa through Mayor Melchor Petracorta.

"A total of 174 TUPAD workers from Limasawa will be deployed, and they will clear project sites, load and unload materials, and perform other light work," Golong explained.

Ms. Golong stated that in addition to their TUPAD program wages, each worker will receive P150.00 per day as a meal allowance funded by the SDG Promise Japan.

The SDG Promise Japan facilitated the selection of the recipients of the 38 houses, with priority given to indigents, single parents, and other typhoon Odette victims who had remained homeless until now. —iTacloban (Source: DOLE Region 8)
